Our client is a leading Dutch engineering and manufacturing organisation specialising in advanced steel structures for large-scale industrial, agricultural, and controlled-environment projects. Known for precision design, high-quality fabrication, and innovative approach to structural engineering, they support customers across the Netherlands and internationally.

As their operations continue to grow, they are seeking an Engineer / Work Planner (Steel Structures) to strengthen their Engineering & Work Preparation team.

Role Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for advising, designing, and preparing detailed engineering packages for complex steel-structure projects. You will work closely with project managers, sales teams, and production to develop accurate layouts, drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction documentation.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited for someone with strong technical insight, excellent planning skills, and the ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design

  • Advise on and design complete structural solutions in collaboration with project management and sales teams.
  • Produce layouts, component drawings, assembly drawings, and full construction documentation.
  • Perform and review strength calculations and structural assessments.
  • Prepare and verify technical specifications and engineering data.

Work Preparation & Planning

  • Develop control instructions for production and logistics.
  • Maintain engineering planning schedules and manage project files.
  • Attend engineering and project meetings and report on progress.
  • Transfer construction documentation and project information to project managers.

Documentation & Quality

  • Ensure all technical work follows internal standards, procedures, design systems, and validated methods.
  • Use correct information and documentation before starting technical work.
  • Apply proper document management procedures for layouts, drawings, and records.
  • Identify risks, deviations, or bottlenecks early and propose solutions.
  • Deliver work within agreed timelines and quality standards.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Maintain proactive communication with internal teams and, where necessary, customers.
  • Prepare visit or meeting reports after site visits or technical discussions.
  • Support and cover colleagues during absence as required.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative and customer-focused working environment.

Authorities

  • Independently review and approve layouts, drawings, and control instructions produced by colleagues.
  • Independently verify and approve strength calculations and specifications from fellow engineers.
  • Communicate directly with project managers - and clients when needed - regarding engineering matters.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • MBO/HBO qualification or equivalent experience, ideally in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with:
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit (3D)
    • CASTA / Kassenbouw
    • Glazenstad (Mathcad)
  • Strong communication skills in Dutch, English, and German.

Preferred

  • Valid Category B driving licence.
  • Experience with Advance Steel.
