Senior Engineer

Senior Engineer - International Chemical Company - Nr, Akron

This PSM regulated site is looking for their next technical lead to help plan, lead, and execute technical projects relative to the development of new chemical manufacturing processes and scale-up of new products and then deployment of new processes.

You will work on identifying and scaling new polymer processes, working with chemists to optimize product recipes, assisting the production facilities with resolution to process or product problems/debottlenecking, optimization of existing products, and evaluation of raw materials. The position will also provide engineering and troubleshooting support to Pilot Plant processes.

Daily Duties:

  • Head projects to identify, evaluate, and then develop new chemical processes
  • Lead drive of product scale-up projects through pilot scale to production
  • Lead production colleagues in trials of new products and processes
  • Analyze batch data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations through written reports and presentations
  • Interact with other work groups including product development, technical marketing, and production staff
  • Proactively monitor new technology for opportunities to optimize processes
  • Participate in, or lead, continuous improvement, innovation, and cost reduction programs
  • Develop technical process safety information and participates on MOC, PHA, and PSSR Teams
  • Support and troubleshoot process control system and process instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot and provide process engineering support to Pilot Plant Operations

Reporting to:

The Director Advanced Process Innovation, but will work with other members of senior leadership


  • Bachelors degree in Engineering/Chemistry/Polymers with 7+ years of experience in Polymer R&D and/or Manufacturing OR an Advanced technical degree/Masters/PhD with at least 1 year of experience in Manufacturing
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to lead and work with diverse teams from research to manufacturing
  • Ability to lead projects across global locations
  • Ability to analyze data and drive data based decisions
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and work independently as well
  • Ability to prioritize and balance short and long term needs in a dynamic environment
  • Flexible; adapts well to change and can multi-task efficiently
  • Ability to travel (~20%) to other company facilities, partners, or customers in order to provide hands-on support when necessary

  • ASPEN or other modeling software
  • Emulsion polymerization
  • Small scale equipment operations
  • Analytical chemistry
  • Delta V DCS
  • Controls and instrumentation
  • Manufacturing experience
  • LSS Greenbelt
