Lead Project Engineer


A NYSE-listed, global leader in agricultural nutrient production is seeking a Project Engineering Lead to join its North American headquarters team.

Location

This position is based at the organisation's North American headquarters in Lithia, Florida.

Project Engineer, Lead

The Project Engineering Lead will be responsible for delivering project management and engineering services across capital projects, from inception through to completion. This includes operating within a structured capital project delivery framework to support large-scale industrial operations, primarily within phosphate processing and associated facilities.

Key responsibilities include full lifecycle project execution: scoping, engineering design, scheduling, cost estimation and control, procurement, quality assurance, and construction management. The role also involves overseeing third-party engineering firms, contractors, and consultants to ensure successful project delivery.

You will work cross-functionally with internal teams including operations, maintenance, technical services, legal, EHS, commercial, and strategy to align projects with broader business objectives. A key focus area for this role will be water management and co-product strategic initiatives.

The position also requires ownership of leadership reporting, including regular project updates and performance tracking.

What you'll do

  • Ensure all projects follow the company's structured capital project delivery process from concept through to commissioning and start-up
  • Manage the full engineering design process, including external engineering partners and deliverable approvals
  • Act as a liaison between third-party vendors and internal document control teams to maintain compliance with company standards
  • Maintain accurate and organised project documentation within internal systems
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports, covering progress, cost tracking, scheduling, and change management
  • Collaborate with procurement teams on RFQs/RFPs, bid evaluations, and contractor selection
  • Partner with project controls to maintain cost accuracy and forecasting (targeting >90% accuracy)
  • Lead safety initiatives across all project phases, ensuring strict adherence to safety standards and proactive risk management

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or Electrical preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience managing medium to large-scale capital projects ($20M-$100M) in industrial environments
  • Proficiency in project management and planning tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6, Maximo)
  • Strong experience across Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project phases
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Broad technical understanding across engineering and construction disciplines
  • Experience working in operating plants or brownfield environments
  • Strong problem-solving, risk management, and safety integration capabilities
  • Ability to work independently while aligning with wider business objectives
