SIS Engineer - Refinery - Greater Chicago

A Fortune 100 Refinery business is searching for a Safety Instrumented Systems Engineer for their refinery in Greater Chicago.

The SIS Engineer will ensure that the SIS systems are reliable and safe throughout their lifecycle reporting to the SIS leader on site.

Responsibilities

  • Work on the upkeep and troubleshooting of SIS including test procedures and support, troubleshooting and documentation, critical work reviews, MOCs, spare parts, TAR scope development and execution.
  • Plan and ensure completion of all SIS testing in accordance with safety requirements specification, including periodic online/offline testing of equipment.
  • Participate in investigations of SIS events.
  • Track and analyze reliability of the SIS through a KPI program and recommend improvements.
  • SME for SIS and instrumentation during HAZOPs.
  • Lead and participate in Functional Safety Assessments, for new and existing SIS.
  • Update and maintain SIS documentation i.e. datasheets, I&E drawings, FSAs, LOPAs, SRS, FATs, validation and proof tests, etc.
  • Participate in SIS audits.
  • Assist in SIS projects including design, MOC, construction support, etc.
  • Develop, review, approve and update test procedures for SIS. Evaluate results and identify corrective actions.
  • Actively participate in Layers of Protection Analysis for new and modified SIS.
  • Provide technical support, field experience and best practices to project engineers for upcoming projects.
  • Help turnaround planners in developing SIS scope and ensure SIS test procedure readiness.
  • Select new replacement instrumentation and valves when required. Carry out MOC for SIS modifications.
  • Review validation Site Acceptance Test for new or modified SIS installations.
  • Work with Process Controls to ensure the SIS application meets requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preference Electrical or Chemical Engineering
  • 5 years' experience with instrumentation
  • 3 years' experience in refining/chemicals/similar
  • 2 years' experience with SIS
  • 3rd party SIS certification preferred i.e. from exida or TÜV
  • Experience with DCS
