The Site & Environment
Our client operates a chemical manufacturing site classified as Seveso High Threshold, specialising in the production of high value-added resins and additives for industrial applications.
The site operates in a highly demanding industrial environment, with strong requirements related to:
- Process and operational safety
- Product quality
- Industrial performance
- Asset reliability
The facility employs around 80 people, working mainly in 5x8 shift patterns, and includes on-site functions such as production, maintenance, logistics, HSE, quality (with an internal laboratory), engineering, planning, HR, and finance.
Role Context
As part of a wider initiative to strengthen industrial performance and structure production management, our client is creating a Deputy Production Manager / Performance Leader position.
Reporting directly to the Production Manager, this role is a key operational leadership position, combining:
- Strong field presence
- Deep understanding of production processes
- Team development
- Deployment of continuous improvement initiatives
The role acts as a true right-hand to the Production Manager and ensures continuity of operations in their absence.
This opportunity is suited to a highly hands-on, operational leader capable of analysing processes in depth, identifying deviations, structuring best practices, and developing team competencies in a constrained industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & HSE Compliance
- Apply and actively promote a Zero HSE Impact mindset
- Integrate safety requirements into process design and daily operations
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards
- Participate in safety acceptance reviews and validation of new equipment or processes
- Actively contribute to incident prevention and safety culture reinforcement
Production Performance Management
- Ensure the stability, safety, and performance of production processes
- Monitor and optimise key production parameters to guarantee quality, cost, delivery, and equipment reliability
- Identify deviations, lead corrective actions, and prepare associated technical analyses
- Analyse malfunctions using continuous improvement and root-cause methodologies
- Contribute to performance reviews (KPIs) and propose optimisation actions in collaboration with support functions
- In the absence of the Production Manager, coordinate daily operations and cross-functional communication
Team Development & Leadership
- Train, coach, and develop teams to strengthen autonomy and technical expertise
- Contribute to the structuring of training plans and onboarding of new employees
- Cascade priorities clearly and foster a collaborative, engaged working environment
- Support collective skills development within a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Lead initiatives aimed at improving productivity, reducing losses, and optimising flows
- Identify, manage, and monitor continuous improvement projects in collaboration with maintenance, quality, and logistics
- Drive digitalisation and standardisation of performance monitoring tools (KPIs, reporting)
- Actively contribute to the deployment of an operational excellence culture, sharing best practices and encouraging proactive behaviours
Profile Sought
- Engineering degree or equivalent technical background, or a strong hands-on industrial career path
- Proven experience in industrial production, ideally within chemical manufacturing and/or high-risk environments
- Strong foundations in industrial chemistry to understand processes, reactions, and critical parameters
- Knowledge of resins is an advantage
- Highly operational, field-oriented profile with the ability to react quickly to process deviations
- Strong interest in industrial performance and continuous improvement (root cause analysis, corrective actions, KPI monitoring)
- Demonstrated ability to support, train, and develop teams
- Credible posture as a relay and reference point for the Production Manager, with clear, fact-based communication
- Strong HSE awareness and the ability to consistently reinforce safety rules and behaviours
