Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Design Engineer (Contract)

Location: Remote - United States
Contract Type: Long-term Contract (Approx. 9-12 Months)
Reporting To: Engineering Manager

About the Opportunity

An established engineering consultancy delivering complex industrial process facility projects is seeking an experienced Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Design Engineer to join its engineering team on a contract basis.

Working remotely within the United States, you will support the design and development of a major industrial process facility, producing detailed electrical and instrumentation designs while ensuring compliance with applicable US codes and standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in chemical, petrochemical, energy or other process manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed EC&I engineering designs for industrial process facilities.
• Develop electrical power distribution and instrumentation designs in accordance with US regulations and industry standards.
• Prepare engineering documentation including:
• Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
• Block Cable Diagrams (BCDs)
• Schematics
• General Arrangement Drawings (GAs)
• Scope of Work documentation
• Technical Specifications
• Interconnection Drawings
• Instrument Loop Drawings
• Intrinsic Safety (IS) Calculations
• Design Support Documents (DSDs)
• Assist with the design of control and instrumentation systems for process manufacturing applications.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the design lifecycle.
• Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with relevant US electrical and safety standards.

Required Experience

• Strong background in Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation design within industrial process environments.
• Experience within chemical, petrochemical, refining, industrial manufacturing or similar process industries.
• Good understanding of control and instrumentation systems.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and other applicable US electrical standards.
• Experience producing detailed engineering design documentation.
• Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

• Hazardous Area Classification and Design
• NFPA 70E
• NFPA 499
• NFPA 652
• NEC Class II requirements
• ISA / IECEx standards
• ETAP (or equivalent cable sizing software)
• Dialux or Relux lighting design software
• Lightning protection system design
• AutoCAD / AutoCAD LT
• High Voltage power distribution systems
• Earthing and grounding system design

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated engineer who can work independently within a remote engineering team while delivering high-quality technical documentation. You will have a practical understanding of industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, hazardous area design and US engineering standards, together with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.
