JOB TITLE: Process Engineer

Location: Pasadena, TX

The client is a global producer in the chemical manufacturing industry with multiple production sites worldwide. The company operates large-scale integrated manufacturing assets and serves growing international markets.

JOB PURPOSE

The primary role of this position is the development and implementation of a Process Engineering strategy, five-year capital planning, process optimization, and support for daily operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Execute all job activities in a safe and efficient manner consistent with company safety principles.
  • Adhere to all applicable life-saving and workplace safety rules.
  • Support the integrity management of assigned equipment.
  • Complete all required training on schedule.
  • Develop and implement a Unit Health Monitoring program.
  • Support integrity of critical assets and protective systems, including maintenance and periodic review of:
    • Critical equipment lists
    • Operating and integrity envelopes
    • Applicable damage mechanisms
    • Inspection plans
  • Define and periodically review operating envelopes of assigned equipment.
  • Assist with development of five-year capital plans.
  • Develop long-term process engineering improvement strategies.
  • Write and implement Management of Change (MOC) documentation, including small and large capital projects.
  • Serve as a Process Engineering resource for Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs).
  • Establish effective communication with operations personnel.
  • Investigate operational issues and provide conclusions and recommendations.
  • Act as liaison between the site and external technology/process groups.
  • Assist with tracking yields, production, and feedstock information during month-end closing activities.
  • Maintain process safety documentation and standards.
  • Maintain open communication with plant operators to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and identify process problems.
  • Assist in developing and reporting production KPIs.
  • Monitor catalyst performance and identify process bottlenecks.
  • Analyze process data to identify long-term trends and operational shifts.
  • Collaborate with controls and automation groups on:
    • Alarm management
    • Alarm rationalization
    • Controls improvements
    • Smart manufacturing initiatives
  • Provide input for daily shift instructions.
  • Develop process flow diagrams.
  • Drive alarm management initiatives to completion.
  • Collaborate across engineering, operations, and maintenance functions to balance competing requirements.
  • Participate in or lead Process Safety Reviews and Management of Change processes.
  • Communicate project progress with affected stakeholders.
  • Lead Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) as needed.
  • Provide engineering expertise to Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Assist in meeting regulatory compliance requirements, including environmental, safety, and transportation regulations.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Proficiency with process simulation software and related IT tools.

  • Ability to take initiative during operational challenges.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to climb fixed ladders and multiple flights of stairs.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces for inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including:
    • Hardhat
    • Safety glasses/goggles
    • Face shield
    • Safety footwear
    • Respiratory protection
  • Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and carrying.
  • Understanding of proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
