Role Purpose

Plan, coordinate, witness and document commissioning of mechanical and process-support systems on a major data center project. The role confirms that installation, pre-start checks, vendor start-up, balancing, functional performance and integrated operation satisfy approved design documents, sequences, specifications and Owner/Tenant requirements. It owns discipline evidence and issue follow-through while reporting readiness and risk to the Project Commissioning Lead.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute mechanical commissioning procedures and test scripts for assigned systems through Levels 1-5.
• Verify construction completion and commissioning prerequisites before equipment energization, start-up and functional testing.
• Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, TAB providers, controls personnel and operations representatives during testing.
• Record results, raise and manage deficiencies, verify corrective work and maintain complete turnover evidence.
• Provide accurate mechanical-system status, constraints, forecasts and technical recommendations to the Project Commissioning Lead.
• Review mechanical drawings, specifications, P&IDs, equipment schedules, submittals, control narratives and sequences for commissionability and test coverage.
• Develop system boundaries, equipment lists, check sheets, test packs, flushing/cleaning plans and readiness matrices.
• Verify pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, chemical treatment, lubrication, alignment, rotation, safeties, valve positions and instrument calibration as applicable.
• Witness and document vendor start-up, air and water balancing, equipment performance, redundancy, failure-mode and recovery testing.
• Commission chillers, cooling towers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC units, air-handling systems, heat exchangers, hydronic systems, fuel systems, plumbing and other assigned mechanical utilities.
• Coordinate mechanical/BAS point verification and functional testing, including alarms, interlocks, lead-lag, staging and environmental control.
• Confirm testing instruments have suitable range and current calibration; preserve raw data and signed records.
• Maintain issue logs and punch lists; define retest scope and verify closure evidence.
• Support integrated systems testing, load-bank activities, reliability demonstrations, training and final system handover.
• Apply lockout/tagout, permit-to-work and project safety requirements during commissioning activities.

Professional Experience & Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Building Services or related Engineering discipline; equivalent field and commissioning experience may be accepted.
• Typically 5+ years in mechanical construction, start-up or commissioning on complex facilities.
• Required experience with mission-critical HVAC and hydronic systems; data center commissioning experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated field testing, troubleshooting, deficiency management and technical documentation experience.
• Preferred experience with digital completions platforms and integrated systems testing.

Specific Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of HVAC, hydronics, heat rejection, ventilation, plumbing and associated control sequences.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, plans, details, submittals, TAB reports and manufacturer data.
• Test procedure development, data analysis and root-cause troubleshooting.
• Clear field communication and disciplined recordkeeping.
• Working knowledge of ASHRAE guidance, applicable mechanical/plumbing codes and safe start-up practices.

Travel & Working Environment

The position is primarily site-based in Lisle, Illinois, with travel to factories, vendors or other project locations as required. The role requires regular work in active construction and commissioning environments and the ability to safely access project areas, use required PPE and visually inspect installed work and test indications.
