Job Description - Process Engineer (Refinery / Industrial Plant)
We are seeking a hands-on, well-rounded Process Engineer to join a growing industrial operations team in Wichita, KS. The role involves providing technical leadership for ongoing plant operations and improvement projects within a refining and resource recovery facility that processes and reclaims industrial materials. You'll coordinate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable plant performance. This position also includes managing small capital projects, developing process documentation, and supporting the site's continuous improvement and reliability programs. Expect to spend roughly 70% of your time on the plant floor and 30% in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and execution of capital projects, including budgeting, permitting, and coordination with multiple departments (operations, maintenance, safety, and compliance).
- Provide engineering support for process optimization, troubleshooting, and efficiency improvements.
- Manage project activities at the plant level, ensuring alignment with operational and safety standards.
- Oversee equipment procurement, contractor coordination, and adherence to technical and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to plan and execute system outages and upgrades.
- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance and reliability.
- Contribute to the development of technical process instructions, drawings, and documentation.
- Analyze process data and operational metrics to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, or Industrial Engineering (required).
- 2-4 years of experience in a plant, industrial, or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience within refining, energy, or resource recovery operations considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of process systems, piping, instrumentation, pumps, and materials of construction.
- Familiarity with P&IDs, blueprints, and industrial safety standards.
- Hands-on and mechanically inclined, with the ability to work in both office and field environments.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to engage effectively across teams.
- Experience with MS Project or similar project management software a plus.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights or in varying weather conditions as required.
