Senior Counsel - Power Generation

SENIOR COUNSEL - GENERATION DEVELOPMENT (GAS-FIRED)
A leading energy and infrastructure platform is seeking a Senior Counsel to support its Generation Development team, with a focus on gas-fired power projects across the full project lifecycle.
This role will partner directly with development and investment teams to provide legal support on the origination, development, acquisition, and execution of large-scale generation assets. You will be involved from early-stage project development through to construction, financing, and operations, advising on a wide range of legal and commercial matters.
The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including development, engineering, commercial, and finance teams, as well as external counterparties such as regulators, contractors, and financing partners. You will play a key role in enabling project delivery by providing practical, solutions-oriented legal advice across complex infrastructure projects.
This position requires a strong understanding of power project development, particularly within thermal or gas-fired generation, and the ability to navigate both legal and commercial challenges across long-term, capital-intensive assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on all stages of project development, including permitting, construction, financing, and operations
- Support development and investment teams on project-level acquisitions and transactions
- Draft and negotiate key project agreements, including EPC, offtake, and financing documentation
- Provide legal support on regulatory and compliance matters impacting generation assets
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to manage risk and ensure project progression
- Work alongside external counsel and advisors on complex project issues
Candidate Profile:
- Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience (typically 10+ years)
- Background in energy, infrastructure, or project development law
- Experience supporting power generation projects, ideally gas-fired or thermal assets
- Strong understanding of project lifecycle and commercial drivers
- Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-legal stakeholders
