Senior Planner / Scheduler - Industrial Projects

Location: Bécancour, Québec, Canada
Contract: Initial 6-12 months, with option to extend
Project outlook: Approximately 2 years of anticipated work
Working arrangement: Flexible during early project phases, with site attendance as required
Start date: As soon as possible

The Opportunity

We are recruiting an experienced Senior Planner / Scheduler to join the project team of a major international industrial organisation at its aluminium smelter facility in Bécancour, Québec.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established planning professional to take a key role in the delivery of industrial capital projects, working closely with the project team as activities progress from study and engineering through to construction and execution.

The organisation is seeking someone who can step into an existing project environment, quickly understand the current schedule and take ownership of the planning function with minimal supervision.

The position offers an initial 6-12 month contract with the possibility of renewal. Based on current project expectations, there may be a requirement for approximately two years of support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of project planning and scheduling activities using Primavera P6.
  • Review, maintain and develop project schedules to support delivery objectives.
  • Work closely with engineering, project management and construction teams to coordinate planning activities.
  • Monitor project progress, identify schedule issues and support the development of appropriate responses.
  • Ensure project schedules reflect the current status of engineering and construction activities.
  • Provide clear scheduling information and updates to the wider project team.
  • Integrate into an established project environment and operate independently with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Support the transition from study and engineering into construction and project execution.

Experience and Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant planning and scheduling experience, ideally 10-15 years or more.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Primavera P6.
  • Proven experience planning and scheduling industrial projects.
  • Ability to take ownership of an existing project schedule and work independently.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Professional working proficiency in French.
  • Ability to attend the project site in Bécancour as required.

Experience in aluminium, metals, smelting, heavy industrial facilities or other comparable industrial environments would be particularly relevant.

Working Arrangement

The project is currently in its earlier study and engineering phases, allowing some flexibility for remote working.

However, the successful candidate must be willing and able to attend the Bécancour facility when required. Site presence is expected to increase as the project progresses into construction, and there may be periods when full-time attendance is necessary.

This position is therefore best suited to someone who can offer genuine flexibility around site attendance throughout the project lifecycle.

Contract Duration and Start

The initial contract is expected to run for 6-12 months, with an option to extend.

The wider project is anticipated to require planning support for approximately two years, although extensions will depend on project requirements.

The preferred start date is as soon as possible, ideally within the next six to eight weeks.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join a major international industrial organisation and become an integral member of its project team.

Rather than working in a purely advisory capacity, the successful candidate will have meaningful responsibility for project scheduling and the autonomy to manage their work.

With a substantial industrial project, a potentially extended contract and flexibility during the earlier phases, the role offers an attractive combination of responsibility, continuity and project exposure.

Interested?

If you have significant industrial planning experience, strong Primavera P6 skills and the ability to work in French, we'd be interested in hearing from you.
